AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, social welfare organization with a membership of nearly 38 million that helps people turn their goals and dreams into real possibilities, strengthens communities and fights for the issues that matter most to families — such as health care, employment and income security, and protection from financial abuse.
In 2018, West Michigan New Horizons Music Ensembles began a partnership with AARP (Michigan) to bring music to events that AARP sponsors in the Grand Rapids area. On March 22, Ransom Street Big Band performed two sets of music of the Big Band Era at the third “AARP on Tap” at the Rockford Brewing Company. On September 25, AARP will sponsor a “Petting Zoo” at the Grand Rapids Brewing Company. Attendees will be able to explore various wind band instruments while WMNHME musicians talk with people about the instruments. On October 19, AARP and WMNHME will collaborate to present an evening of music, finger food and learning about the two groups at an event to be held at Calvary Baptist Church.
