Our Mission:

To provide opportunities for the lifelong benefits of music making!

If you are looking for a supportive and fun environment in which to play your wind, brass or percussion instrument, come join the West Michigan New Horizons Music Ensembles.

Through our music making, we enrich the lives of people by bringing them a musical experience that lifts and refreshes their spirits.  WMNHME is a welcoming and affirming organization open to any adult who desires to play a musical instrument. One of the hallmarks of our organization is that we rehearse and often perform during the day.

Our musicians come from many different walks of life. Some members are retired, others are still working, some are in school, and others are homemakers. Their musical backgrounds are just as diverse—either having played music all their lives or returning to music after a long break. A number are trying something new for the first time. What we have in common is a love of music, a desire to work hard to improve our skills and a mission to share what we have learned in concerts.

In addition to rehearsals and concerts, our groups play outreach programs at schools, nursing homes and retirement communities, where music is most needed. Anyone interested in booking one of our ensembles for an outreach performance can go to our “Contacts” page and select, “Request a Performance.” When you send in the requested information, we’ll get back to you.

The performance and rehearsal season for WMNHME extends from Labor Day to Memorial Day with a summer hiatus. Our ensembles rehearse at Calvary Baptist Church, located at 1200 28th St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49508. This site is fully handicap accessible.

Our History

Welcome to West Michigan New Horizons Music Ensembles. Our organization is a member of the New Horizons International Music Association. Founded in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1999 with just 13 members, our group has grown rapidly and today numbers nearly 100 musicians participating in five different ensembles. We are a non-profit organization that performs formal concerts as well as outreach programs for schools, retirement homes and nursing facilities. We believe music is a way of making vital connections to life.
